At Encompass, we believe that learning is an ongoing process, where new skills are developed through everyday experiences guided by supportive adults and more experienced peers. As experts in early education, we understand that every child brings unique strengths and challenges to the classroom. That’s why we utilize Conscious Discipline, an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach that supports the social-emotional development of each child in our care.
Conscious Discipline is an approach that focuses on building emotional intelligence and social skills in children. It emphasizes the importance of understanding how adverse childhood experiences and trauma impact a child’s brain and behavior. By recognizing that challenging behaviors often stem from unmet needs or unlearned skills, our educators are able to better support children in managing their emotions and developing the skills necessary for success in the classroom and beyond.
At Encompass, we see children’s behaviors not as problems, but as forms of communication. When a child “acts out” it may be an expression of an unmet need or a skill they haven’t yet developed. Our educators are trained to decode these behaviors, identify the underlying need, and create a plan to coach children through the learning process. By addressing the root causes of behaviors, we help children build new skills and better navigate their social and emotional worlds.
Through Conscious Discipline, we focus on three key areas of social-emotional development:
By focusing on these foundational skills, we empower children to succeed academically and socially, building the emotional resilience they need to thrive in any environment.
At Encompass, we are committed to nurturing the whole child—mind, body, and heart—ensuring they are equipped with the emotional intelligence and social skills to succeed now and in the future.
