We’re proud to highlight one of our exceptional Foster Grandparents, Jeff Cameron, who has been sharing his time and talents in the Blue Room at the Cornerstone Center for the past two years.
Jeff brings a special passion for poetry—writing it, reading it, and even introducing it to young learners. As he often proves, even four-year-olds can begin to appreciate the rhythm and creativity of poetry when it’s shared with enthusiasm.
Although Jeff had no prior experience with children before joining the program, you would never guess it today. He connects with children in a genuine and meaningful way, meeting them at their level, whether that means sitting in a child-sized chair, joining them on the floor, or stepping into their world of play. From building structures and playing Rock, Paper, Scissors to tossing a football outside, Jeff engages fully in whatever captures their interest.
“Grandpa Jeff lights up when our children invite him to do…anything,” shares his classroom teacher. “Whether it’s helping with a zipper, playing chase on the playground, cleaning up toys, or exploring dinosaurs, his smile lets them know he’s present and ready. He has formed a particularly meaningful connection with a child who tends to be more reserved. Through gentle invitations to play and by narrating their shared activities, Jeff has helped this child grow more comfortable engaging with both adults and peers. We’ve seen remarkable progress—he now expresses his needs and participates in play more confidently.
In a classroom full of energetic four-year-olds, Jeff’s steady presence, patience, and enthusiasm make a lasting difference. His dedication is a powerful example of how Foster Grandparents help children build confidence, connection, and love of learning—one moment at a time.
