Ever wish kids came with a built-in guide for handling big emotions? While we can’t offer an instruction manual, we can create a supportive community that helps them develop self-control, kindness, and problem-solving skills. That’s exactly what a Conscious Discipline Action Team (CDAT) is all about!
Made up of dedicated educators and administrators, the CDAT plays a vital role in creating a thoughtful, intentional, and long-term strategy for Conscious Discipline implementation across our organization. Thanks to a generous donation from the Meng Foundation, we have a unique opportunity to engage board member and Conscious Discipline master trainer, Kay Zastrow, to guide our commitment to Conscious Discipline and foster the growth of Encompass as a whole. This research-backed approach encourages connection, problem-solving, and self-regulation, which helps kids feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. This initiative reflects our dedication to creating a cohesive, organization-wide approach that strengthens our children, families, and educators alike.
Creating a safe, supportive, and emotionally intelligent environment for children requires more than just rules—it takes a community-wide effort.
Team Members:
The first steps for the CDAT are empowering our center directors, advocates, and key educators within the agency with additional training to create a clearer path for continuing education and coaching for all classrooms and educators. We will start by participating in the “Handling Upset” Conscious Discipline e-course in multiple cohorts over the next year. Then, this summer a few select staff will be attending the Conscious Discipline Institute.
